Alabama gives you 30 days from your Notice of Valuation to appeal to your county Board of Equalization. Everything below explains how that works and what it is worth. Our Alabama appeal kit is not on sale this season — we open for 2027.
We are not preparing Alabama appeal kits this season. We will be for the 2027 season, and we will email you the day it opens so you have time to get yours in.
Key facts before you appeal.
Your kit arrives with the appeal filled in and a return envelope addressed to your county BOE. You sign it in ink and mail it — it's your appeal, in your name. We do not file it for you.
The Alabama BOE can raise your assessment during appeal. TaxAppeal only sells a kit when comparable evidence clearly supports a lower value.
Alabama assesses Class III residential property at 10% of fair market value. An over-estimated fair market value inflates everything above it.
Act 2024-344 limits assessed value increases to 7%/year for owner-occupied homes — but resets on ownership change. Recent buyers face full market value with no cap.
Alabama uses a postmark deadline — mailing by the 30-day cutoff is sufficient. Ask the post office for a dated receipt as your own proof of mailing.
If unsatisfied with the BOE decision, you may appeal to Circuit Court — but must pay taxes by Dec 31 or post bond. TaxAppeal's kit covers the BOE level only.
We compare your value with comparable sales and run your bill through the HB73 cap and your exemptions. If an appeal won't lower your bill by more than our $89 fee, we tell you and don't sell you one.
Your county's Board of Equalization appeal, filled in, with the evidence citing Code of Alabama §40-3-20, a checklist and a return envelope addressed to your county BOE. A PDF copy of the full kit is also emailed to you the same day.
Sign in ink, add a stamp and mail it within 30 days of your Notice of Valuation. The board writes to you directly.
Every Alabama county has its own Board of Equalization. When we open for 2027 our kit will cover all of them.
No percentage of savings. No contingency. You keep 100%. Nothing is being sold on this page today.

TaxAppeal USA is a self-service document-preparation service. We prepare a ready-to-sign appeal kit and mail it to you; you sign it and mail it to the county yourself. In every state we serve, including Florida, we are not property tax consultants, agents, or representatives, we do not provide tax or legal advice, and we do not file appeals or represent customers before any appraisal district, board of assessors, board of equalization, value adjustment board, or review board. Every appeal, protest and petition is prepared for the property owner, signed by the owner, and mailed by the owner in the owner’s name. In Florida your petition is signed by you as the property owner under section 194.011(3), Florida Statutes, and the county’s Value Adjustment Board filing fee is paid by you directly to the county. TaxAppeal USA does not sign as your representative, does not appear before the Board, and does not present evidence or argument at a hearing.
